Worth County Library System provides computers and Internet access in accordance with its mission statement to provide current, high-demand, high-interest materials in a variety of formats for persons of all ages, utilizing the latest information technologies. All users are expected to use this privilege and these resources within legal limits and for ethical purposes.
The Internet is a global information network containing a wide variety of material and opinions from diverse points of view utilizing text, graphics, and sound. It is a valuable resource for educational, informational, and recreational material. The Internet is in a constant state of change. Not all information available is current, accurate, or complete. If information cannot be found, consult the Director for other possible Library resources. The Internet is accessed by a wide and varied population and is largely immoderate and uncensored. Although the Library allows access to any information that might be found on the Internet, there are restrictions on access to the Internet through filtering. In all cases, however, parents or guardians of children under 17 must assume responsibility for their children’s use of the Internet.
Responsible, ethical, and legal use of this resource is expected. Appropriate use includes respect for the rights and property of others. These guidelines should be followed:
The library provides an internet access point for users with portable computers capable of receiving wireless signals. This access point will allow users to access the internet from their laptop computers when sitting within range of the access point. Library staff will provide general information on the settings necessary to access the internet via this connection. Printing is not available using the wireless connection. As part of the library’s network, the wireless connection falls under the filtering system implemented by GPLS.
