Proctoring Service

Proctoring Guidelines

  • All exams must be delivered to the library.
  • The library should be notified of the need for a proctor at least 72 hours in advance. 
  • The library will not proctor any exam which requires the proctor to sit with the student during the exam.
  • No costs (postage, long-distance calls, copying, etc.) are to be incurred by the library.
  • Exams must be scheduled during the library’s regular hours of operation and be completed 15 minutes before the library closes.
  • Exams not taken by the expiration date will be returned, if postage is provided, or shredded.
  • The library does not keep copies of the completed tests.

Proctoring consist of:

  • Checking identification of student taking the exam. 
  • Noting the time that an exam was started and completed in the Library.
  • Signing the required school supplied documentation.
  • Direct supervision during the exam is not provided.
  • The exam proctor will be the librarian in charge at the time the exam is taken.

Participating institutions and/or students provide the following:


  • Name of the educational institution 
  • Name of the student and contact information
  • Instructions to the proctor on administering the exam 
  • Expiration date (default is 3 months from receipt) 
  • Return envelope with postage 


  • Photo ID
  • Supplies and materials necessary for completing the exam (pen, pencils, paper, computer disks, etc.)
  • Return envelope and postage, if not provided by the institution
  • Payment for copies or faxes required by the institution or proctor
